Held annually in Bangkok, THAIFEX - Anuga Asia has established itself as one of the major events for the food and beverage industry in Asia. The 2026 edition brought together more than 3,500 exhibitors from 56 countries across nearly 140,000 square meters of exhibition space.

Attending the event firsthand, we observed a striking evolution of the trade show. While THAIFEX remains an essential hub for commercial trade, the 2026 edition also highlighted a powerful focus on innovation, new consumer trends, and the core challenges currently transforming the agri-food industry.

A Thai Industry Moving Upmarket

Long recognized as one of Asia's primary food processing hubs, Thailand is now evolving its economic model. Beyond its sheer industrial capacity and export prowess, the country is looking to strengthen its positioning in high-value-added segments.

This ambition was clearly on display at THAIFEX 2026. Themes centered around nutrition, wellness, functional ingredients, food tech, and health-benefit products took center stage. The goal is no longer just to produce on a massive scale, but to develop differentiating products capable of meeting the expectations of international consumers and shifting market trends.

Hall 4: A Showcase for Tomorrow’s Trends

The main highlight of this year's edition was the creation of Hall 4, a space entirely dedicated to emerging trends and innovations within the agri-food sector.

This new hall brought together exhibitors highlighting the major themes shaping today's market: sugar reduction, clean labels, ingredient transparency, sustainable packaging, co-product upcycling, and the circular economy. These are all topics that align directly with the expectations of European consumers and buyers.

The opening of this dedicated space illustrates the growing importance placed on innovation within THAIFEX and, more broadly, the desire of Thai manufacturers to position themselves at the forefront of the trends structuring the future of the sector.

Asian Flavors Enter a New Phase

Throughout the trade show, we were particularly struck by how traditional Asian flavors are reinventing themselves through new uses, formats, and consumer experiences. Among the trends we observed on-site:

  • Coconut and green tea are cementing their roles as essential staples for the new generation of snacks.

  • Thai tea is expanding well beyond the beverage aisle to disrupt pastries, confectionery, and frozen desserts.

  • Pandan is confirming its status as a premium ingredient, valued as much for its cultural identity as for its culinary potential.

  • Gochujang continues its international expansion, thanks to more accessible formats adapted to Western habits, such as the doypack (the flexible packaging on the bottom of a bag allowing it to fold and stand up on its own).

  • Thai and plum sauces are reinventing traditional condiments by offering quick and simple solutions to elevate everyday dishes.

  • More daring creations, like soy sauce ice cream, reflect a growing appetite for unexpected flavor pairings and unique tasting experiences.

This momentum isn't limited to finished products. Historic ingredients such as moringa, turmeric, and galangal are also enjoying a resurgence of interest thanks to their nutritional benefits and strong cultural identity. These ingredients are successfully carving out a renewed place in the modern food supply.

A Strategic Platform at the Heart of Southeast Asia

THAIFEX 2026 confirms Thailand's expanding role in the Asian agri-food industry. Thanks to its position at the heart of ASEAN, its highly developed industrial network, and its drive for innovation, the country is cementing its status as a strategic partner for European companies wishing to expand into Asia.

At STPI, this is exactly the field we explore every day: spotting the trends that matter, meeting the people behind them, and helping our European clients turn these opportunities into concrete projects.
